Lone Wolf and Cub takes place in mid-eastern Japan, sometime during the early Tokugawa
Era (approximately 1603-1868, also called Edo Period). Ogami Itto, the
shogun's executioner, is falsely accused of treason by jealous rivals,
the Yagyu, who also kill his wife. Refusing to commit seppuku and taking his only
son, Daigoro, he embarks on a journey across Japan seeking revenge and
hiring his sword as an assassin. Because he pushes his infant son along in what
appears to be a crude cart, he is sometimes referred to as the
"baby cart assassin." His cart, though, is much more than it
seems, concealing numerous weapons and other ingenious devices to aid
his efforts. Ogami Itto was played by Wakayama Tomisaburo, the brother of Katsu
Shintaro, the talented actor and
producer who portrayed Zatoichi in the famous series about the blind
swordsman. |
